As in many other schools around the country, we have a very diverse school and classroom. We are also a Title I school in which 100% of our students receive their breakfast and lunch at no cost to them! Many also receive food bags to take home each weekend.
My kindergarten students are eager learners, yet many are functioning way below their age due to the poor environment they live in.
For over half of my students, English is not their native language. Our Title I School is very supportive and ELL students receive services, however, due to the large population they only receive the minimum amount.
My students are charming, smart, sweet little 5 and 6-year-olds who come to school everyday craving knowledge. My sweet students will come in the door ready to learn and have fun; they will laugh, cry, hug, giggle, play, and learn all in one place: their classroom. Therefore, I am eager and ready to help them achieve their dream.
My Project
So I received the most amazing laptop in the Great Best School Day Ever Flash Fund (thank you Ripple!) However this Mac does not have a CD player and I have several literacy curriculum products that have wonderful activities that I can access via CD/DVD. Now I CAN access them on the ancient school desktop during the school year, however coping them is an issue these.
I would love to be able to access these wonderful literacy and math extensions using the external CD player with the Mac and at home during summer where printing is not an issue and I can be fully prepared for the school year come fall!
LetterLand is a Phonics program that we used for the first time this year and it was amazing! However it requires a lot of pre-work and as I said before, printing is limited at school due to budget cuts, therefore I try to print most activities and letter and word cards at home.
I also received Rosetta Stone last year and will need the external CD to continue those lessons. This helps me communicate with my ELL students and their families better. I have included the case for the CD player and a 2018-2019 teacher planner which will help me stay organized and in contact with my students and their families. I had one last year and the contact information for all my students as well as important information was always accessible. Thank you for helping me be the best teacher I can be!
