Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work in a school with 7th-9th graders from many different backgrounds. The students at our school are wonderful students and many go through difficult things. We address suicide prevention in many different ways, one by giving students who are at risk a bag of tools to use when having difficult feelings.

These suicide prevention bags will give students tools to use when feelings feel too big to deal with.

This will allow them to ride the wave until the feeling gets less big and then can be addressed. Journal and pen to write down thoughts or random things, fidgets to get the inner energy out, candy to practice mindfulness or focus on what they are eating, and other tools will be in these bags. I have made these twice for my school already and they have been a big hit. The counselors in my school love being able to provide the students with something when in need and the students love it too.
