Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are kind and generous children who strive to do their best in school. 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. 33% of the population are EL students. Many of the students live in poverty.In my experience, most students do not have the resources at home that are often needed in the classroom.
Our students love to learn, read, and write.
They seek out new ways to lead their own learning. I want to be able to provide materials for them to do so. My classroom is unique this year because half of my class roster are beginning readers. This is because of language as 13 students are receiving English as a Second Language services this includes 6 bilingual students who are under 30 months in school.
I am lucky to have such dedicated and motivated students that try their absolute best with what they have. These supplies will help stock my classroom, so that students will have what they need to be successful even if they do not come to school prepared at no fault of their own.
My Project
My school is in an impoverished district where almost the entire school population qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. Many of our families have a minimum of resources at home so many times our students do not come to school prepared with school supplies.
I need your help!
I have spent several thousands of dollars in school supplies over my 12 year teaching career. However, I am back in graduate school to obtain my administration degree and certification. So money is very tight in my own personal wallet. Additionally, our district does not have the funds to give teachers money for supplies.
All of the supplies I am asking for are necessary for classroom lessons. Pencils, a pencil sharpener, dry erase markers, erasers, construction paper, glue, Post It notes, markers, and so much more are used everyday and often are consumed before the end of the year. I am also requesting a microphone/amplification system that the students can use when they are leading class lessons, asking/answering questions, and sharing their comments.
