Success Starts in the Home for English Language Learners!
Help me give my students and their families high-quality, reusable resources to access and practice the curriculum in the home to thrive as English Language Learners in the classroom.
Creative. Curious. Ready. Motivated to learn new English. The English Learner (EL) population in our School District continues to grow steadily each year. As the EL population grows, it is imperative for us as English Language Teachers to support classroom teachers and parents in order to grow a community and learning environment to support their unique language needs.
Nurturing relationships with the families of our English Learners is the key to individual student success in the classroom and at home.
My Project
Our schools are the first American School experience for the majority of our first generation English Language Learners and their parents. Schooling and attitude towards education varies greatly across cultures. This why it is imperative to connect with families early, and teach them methods and strategies for learning skills in the home that their child can transfer into the classroom.
Providing early intervention, with hands-on learning experiences and quality materials for both parent and child, as modeled by specialized teachers, builds a learning community.
It is our mission to build these partnerships with families through Math, Literacy and Language evenings connecting the community, families, and the school. Each of these specialized evenings will have bilingual learning stations. At these stations parents will learn games, strategies and activities. At the end of the evening, families will receive the same materials to utilize at home.
