My Project

This year we piloted an art class which pairs Special Education with General Education students to foster ability, expand creativity and gain a sense of belonging. Through art we have expanded on the social sense of belonging. We have made great gains on fine motor skills, ability to plan and execute ideas, and worked on 2D and 3D art.

Painting is by far the favored activity.

Projects frequently culminate in collaborative large pieces of fine art. Large group projects require cooperation, planning skills, negotiation and support from teachers, para educators and peer mentors alike. Most of all they require supplies. I would like to upgrade our painting supplies to give our students every opportunity to learn, grown and experience success.

It is my hope that through art we will continue to find joy, improve our fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and independence. Art is for everyone and everyone deserves an experience filled with high quality art supplies, challenging concepts and new ideas. In room 411 we are aiming at getting our students to work with a multitude of media in 2d and 3D art as well as music and movement. We have the support of our para-educators and peer mentors who bring the dedication vital to the success of our program.
