I have the pleasure of teaching blind and visually impaired students of all ages in Georgetown County, South Carolina. Most of my students live in rural areas, are from low income families, and attend a Title I school.
Most of my students are mainstreamed into general education classes and are required to complete the general education curriculum and take all computerized district and state standardized tests using a laptop computer with a mouse pad, which is very difficult if you have low vision.
My Project
Today, most everything that our students are doing require them to use a computer. Standardized tests are now computerized, many textbooks are online, and many teachers are using Google Classroom to post assignments. This is very helpful when you have low vision, because you can enlarge the font to whatever size is needed. Unfortunately, most of my low vision students have difficulty maneuvering the mouse and seeing the mouse cursor on the computer screen. A Touch Screen will make it so much easier to complete classroom assignments, standardized testing, research assignments and other daily computer activities. For my students, success is just "a touch away!"
