Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are in a very low income school. The surrounding area is very rough on the East side of Indianapolis. They are all given breakfast and lunch free everyday. They come to school without the minimal equipment needed to learn. Not only do they not have the minimal equipment needed to learn, they lack background knowledge and life experiences that other students have. My goal is to provide the most engaging on level learning experience that I can for my students.

My Project

These books with give my students not only on their level readers. This will help to boost their self-esteem. My students come to me with very little knowledge of letters. These books will help them to have the self confidence that they lack in reading. This will also lead into other areas of their lives such other areas of academics as well as socialization. When their confidence is built up in reading, they become more confident in their socialization. Not only will this help them in the lower grades, it will lead into the love of learning that will benefit them in the upper grades and help them to stay in school.
