This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I Middle School of the Arts. Historically, we are in one of the poorest neighborhoods in our city. Although this is one of our greatest challenges we are fortunate to have created a culture of love and respect over the last few years.

Our school is unique, in that we are named after two mothers who fought, along with the NAACP, for the desegregation of public schools in the city which led to our name change to honor them, to be the first middle school in the city to be integrated.

When our students cross the threshold of our building each morning, they know that they are crossing into a different world from the one that they have left behind.

We have made it our mission to show each child that they are important to the school and to our vision. I have 150 of these amazing students under my care daily in 8th Grade Social Studies which I try to make sure all of my students are guaranteed access to an equitable and equal education no matter the costs!

My Project

In my classroom I like to use the projector to show videos, post homework and assignment instructions. Last year I used a desk and an extension cord. The desk was always being bumped into and was not a sturdy or safe solution.

We are moving into a completely online textbook this year and will need a sturdy solution for the class projector and computer.

As a class we will be projecting videos, readings and assignments. The cart will be used each day to work with our completely online textbook.

With this cart becoming a permanent fixture, it will save time each day because we will not need to set up the projector each class period.
