Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a group of energetic, creative and diverse third, fourth and fifth graders in an at-risk school. Most of these students come from low income, poverty and some homeless families. Attendance and tardiness is often an issue.

The desks that we are currently using I have fixed a number of times and the screws are stripped so they can no longer be tighten. The desks are very wobbly because of separation on the welding between the desktop and legs. The formica on the desks is coming away from the wood and I have re-glued it but it continues to come apart. Therefore, the formica breaks and creates sharp edges. Depending where the formica chips, it creates an area difficult for the students to write. The chairs are also wobbly from years of being stacked on top of each other, dragged from room to room and general wear and tear.

We need 28 desks, 26 - 14inch chairs, and 4 - 12inch chairs to provide chairs for all my students and chairs for the computer station to allow for a comfortable and safe learning environment. Your help will ensure that the students have a safe and functional work environment which is an integral part of learning. In addition, this will bring a smile to their face and motivate them come to class. You will make it possible for my students to complete assignments in a smooth desk top. Most importantly, a sturdy desk and chair that will provide a comfortable and effective work area.

You will make it possible for my students to realize that everyone cares about their education and their learning environment. Your help will ensure that they come to school everyday and feel proud of their classroom. A classroom with functional equipment creates focus and positive learning.
