My wonderfully clever students attend a Title I school. Over 90% of the students who attend my school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. That means 9 out of 10 children in my school live below the poverty line.
These brilliant students have challenges at home and it is my goal to help them have the most opportunities possible at school.
In my classroom, we work hard and we play hard. We learn and we grow. We face challenges head-on and we tell math problems that "we're not scared!"
My Project
I am asking for lots of different types of STEM activities that my students will be able to play with a use during indoor recess. Since we are having to follow new social distancing rules we need more activities for recess time.
Research has proven time and time again that children learn through play.
I am asking for new toys like a marble run, playdoh, legos, and other building toys, that my students can use during recess. We aren't allowed to share materials so I am asking for enough toys that each student will have one to play with. After they are used I will sanitize them or put them in quarantine until they are able to be played with again.
All of the materials I have selected will help my students come to a deeper understanding of content taught in my class. For instance, in science we have Engineering standards that Legos, marble runs, and magnetic tiles will give my students the ability to master while having fun.
We also will be exploring science phenomenon using toys like the Rock On! Geology game and the crystal kit. Toys like play-doh will give my students the ability to create structures and creations that will expand their imaginations.
