Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach math to 150 wonderful 7th graders! In 7th grade, my students learn many skills that will lay the foundation for future math classes, such as algebra and geometry. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, with some traveling up from Mexico each day to go to school. Others have recently immigrated from other countries, and are experiencing formal education for the first time.
My goal is to create an interactive learning environment in which all of my students can feel successful in math, and engage with the content in an exciting way.
Many of my students aspire to go to college in the future, and most would be first generation college students. Therefore, in our classroom we work not only on math, but on building the necessary habits and study skills to help them reach their goals.
My Project
These materials will help out our school for the rest of the year. The whiteboards will help our students work through problems and learn to graph equations. Students love using the whiteboards and they help us teachers to incorporate fun games and races into instruction.
The soccer goals will allow our PE department to play real soccer games!
Students have been using cones as goals up until this point, and having real goals will create a more fun and competitive environment.
