Studying Biology Through the Lens of a Microscope

Help me give my students microscopes and prepared slides to study the structure and function of cells which will be vital to their understanding of life.

My Project

For this project, students will be studying plant cells, animal cells, and prokaryotic cells (bacteria), under microscopes. They will compare and contrast what they see to develop an understanding of what makes each cell type unique. We will also be looking at specialized cell types like cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle.

We will then expand our knowledge of cells to include body systems and muscle contractions.

At this point, we will be using the heart rate monitors to measure changes in heart rate at exercise and at rest.

We will complete our exploration of cell types and body systems by looking at muscle contractions. We will use a Tens machine to demonstrate how muscle contractions work.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
