This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are all extraordinary kids!
Most of these students reside in an urban area, which is mostly underfunded and, in some areas, lacking even the most basic of needs.
Sometimes their living condition is not nice and multiple members of a family have to share a single room.
When students come to my classroom, I want to create a nice welcoming environment, so that they can feel the classroom is a nice and relaxed place to be.
As I will teach Environmental Science this year, I want to create a carpeted sitting corner inside my classroom with some floor seats and throw pillows to make it nicer and comfortable.
Many students at our school suffer from homelessness or are in foster care. Many come from immigrant families seeking refuge in a sanctuary city. More than 75% of the students in my school come from extremely low-income households. Although many of them come from tough neighborhoods and lifestyles, they are strong, smart, and full of life. They are the scientists of tomorrow.
I believe a nice welcoming classroom will motivate my students a lot to engage more in education.
