Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Years ago I taught at a school that spent a lot of money on tech education. Since transferring, I lost many of the instructional tools that I used daily. While I now have a projector, nothing beats being able to slip a sample of work under the document camera for sharing student work instantly.
I teach seven classes of ninth grade English (210 students).
My students come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds. Six of my classes are "regular" English classes with struggling readers/writers who are performing at basic or below basic standards. Each year I work hard to keep my students enthusiastic about learning, but it can be challenging. In my fifteen years of teaching I have discovered that technology is not only a good instructional tool, it's a motivational tool as well. Students love an opportunity to use computer and projector for presentations. Having a document camera at the ready will also inspire them to share their work.
My Project
A document camera has many uses in the classroom. The most common use is for sharing hand written work. Either myself or my students will take their work and place it under the document camera to share with classmates via the projector. Holding up your assignment for a class of 32 students simply doesn't work. Placing that work under the camera and projecting it full screen does.
While Wilson is THE BEST HIGH SCHOOL around, it does lack the technology that other schools have.
This project is important to me because I want the kids to be motivated by the use of the device, and I want them to be eager to share and learn from their fellow classmates.
