There is no greater indicator of academic achievement than the ability to read! My goal as an educator is to develop and foster a love of reading in my students.
This is only possible with books that interest and inspire them!
My seventh-grade students are amazing! We have been on a journey of independent reading this year! In promoting, reading and student agency, students choose their novels. We read in class and a few nights a week for homework. The growth they have shown at the mid-point of the year is truly remarkable! I am hoping to continue to inspire my students to want to read more, by expanding my in-class library. The books I have chosen to improve my library not only appeal to struggling readers but also represent the diversity seen in my classroom. These books will inspire and help students to develop empathy and acceptance of others.
Learning loss from the pandemic is real and it must be addressed. In my classroom, we are working to recover that lost time through reading. Students who read are students who succeed!
