My students love books, but need leveled readers in order to grow in comprehension and fluency. The school does not have the funds to purchase leveled readers or the carpet they need to read them comfortably on.
My students are energetic and enthusiastic learners who need access to good books that help them grow.
The school building was built in the 50's so it needs updating. A carpet and leveled readers would go a long way to improving the classroom environment.
My Project
My students will use the leveled readers to practice fluency and will use them during read to self and read to someone time. They will be able to read the books during morning work as fluency practice and then again during the Daily 5 literacy block. The students will love using the classroom carpet to read and sit on during lessons. My students will learn comprehension skills as well as develop a love for literature from reading the leveled readers.
The donations will make the room into a dream classroom for the students.
They will have access to updated and quality literature that they did not have access to before. The floor is older so the rug will make the room colorful and will entice the students to read on it.
