Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Over half of my students have never created or presented their own multimedia presentation. I teach US History in an urban, high poverty high school. Our international focus has helped draw to our school many different nationalities, each representing countries around the world. As we raise the academic achievement bar higher, I have been pushing my students to begin to synthesize and analyze history as they form their own opinions about our nation's past. One of the greatest skills they can learn in my class is how to be critical of those who write history. My students would greatly benefit from participating in more presentations to the class. When students present their interpretations of history it not only helps reach other classmates, it helps those presenting claim ownership of their ideas and general knowledge. Those who continue on in their educational journey will find these skills especially helpful.
Fortunately, we were able to secure an LCD projector but our lack of technology (computer) has limited its usefulness. We have secured a desk top computer but our classroom layout has hindered its use with the projector. Our classes are held in a very small mobile unit. Due to the layout of the trailer, there is only one place that the desk top computer can be set up. The only wall that we can project onto is on the other side of the room, making it impossible for us to use both the projector and computer at the same time. We have tried countless different arrangements to overcome this problem, to no avail. This stand will allow us to overcome the limitations of our classroom layout so we can use our LCD projector!
This LCD projector stand will give our class LCD projector a mobile resting place so it can be used with regularity. My students have expressed an interest in creating interactive multimedia presentations in preparation for our state's end of course exam. As we move into the 20th century, the availability of electronic sources increases dramatically. Students have been downloading and bringing in music and video clips relating to our studies. The stand would help me make the LCD projector more accessible for students to use to share their research.
Also, we are working on entries for a national contest that
challenges teams of students to narrow down and rank the top 10 people in American history. Students can practice their presentations for the competition with the LCD projector and stand in preparation for the contest.
Your donation will make a difference. You will make it possible for my students have regular access to our class LCD projector. Once it has a resting place, we can overcome our (limiting) classroom setup to utilize the projector daily! Thank you for your help.
