My students need a copy of Rosetta Stone for Swahili to help build a partnership with an orphanage in Tanzania.

I teach Science and Health at an alternative K-12 school. Many of our students are on free and reduced lunch, and have family situations that break my heart. Our school is based on experiential learning, so many of our classes involve field trips and learning outside of classroom walls.

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others" - Gandhi. Our school has begun to form a partnership with an orphanage in Tanzania and participated in a service-learning trip there this past November (after much fundraising!). Although kids lived without running water and electricity, the biggest challenge was speaking Swahili. All of the students said they wished we had more materials to learn Swahili with before we went on the trip. Another trip is going to take place in November 2011, and I hope to offer an improved Swahili language course.

Our Swahili language training will improve drastically with the purchase of the Rosetta Stone Swahili language set. Rosetta Stone is the leading language-learning software. Students who take this course will have an opportunity to use their skills on the next trip to Tanzania. They will be able to communicate with and therefore form better relationships with the children at the orphanage.

Your generosity and support will help make it possible for our students to interact with children in Tanzania, both through pen pals and in person. I sincerely appreciate your interest in improving education, especially in the area of science and foreign language.
