My amazing first graders attend a diverse inner-city school in California where the majority of our student population qualify for free or reduce price lunch. My students are energetic, highly curious and hardworking. Each student is unique. Each child brings their own strengths and differences to our classroom community. They love reading, listening to read alouds, and enjoy partner reading with their classmates. They also like writing and playing various literacy and math games as well as doing project work.
My Project
I am humbly requesting books and supplies and for my students to utilize all year long (or as long as they last). Many of the books will be used during our mini-lessons and share time in Readers Workshop. Also, many of the books will lend itself to studying writers craft and assist students in developing great writing skills in Writer's Workshop. The paper, markers, and other supplies will be used by the students to participate in share writing and create their own books. Also, a large amount of the chart paper will be used to create anchor charts that reflect the teaching points and discussions we will have during our mini-lessons. The ink, well it's needed to print out pictures of the students for projects.
Overall, this donation will provide access to culturally relevant literature with rich vocabulary and develop academic and social connections to real life experiences.
The books and supplies will aide in the process of allowing my students the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to succeed to the next level of academic and beyond. With your contribution, I'm sure my students will succeed.
