My Students

STEM is in the forefront of education and I am continually learning how to use new digital tools to better engage my students. Technology Rules!

Students in grades 6-8 are digital natives with lots of energy and enthusiasm for science.

They have grown up with computers/technology in their hands and their education needs to use the tools of the 21st Century that incorporate the skills they have learned. Our students are in a high performing district and need to be challenged further; technology can provide the tools to help meet that challenge and help them practice skills they will be required to use in the work force.

My Project

The i-pod Touch will allow students to take a virtual tour, make a map explaining the voyage of Darwin, practice physics principles, make a video instead of a poster, or tell a digital story to their peers. Flip video cameras are a presentation tool- a student's personal video addition to a digital story or a record of an experiment. It puts the camera in the student's hands allowing them to create, edit and present video images and sound on a "tour", an adventure in the outdoor classroom, explain a concept, demonstrate, collaborate, ask questions of each other- connecting learners to each other and students or scientists outside the classroom.

With technology in their hands, student's excitement level is increased and evident in their product.

By incorporating student generated video and podcasts into content they will be forging stronger connections between the real world and what we are learning in the classroom.
