My students come to class everyday eager to see what they will do.
Many of my students struggle with many types of disabilities which makes it hard for them to be equals in the general education classroom.
In my room everybody is somebody amazing and they shine! When students are confident they automatically want to share and that helps each other. Everybody wins and grows... Including the teacher!
I teach 4th and 5th grade resource math. Students are taught grade level curriculum on their academic level. Students are able to learn using their own strengths to help them support their weakness. We enjoy many celebrations on accomplishments in our room.
My Project
Students are needing the connection between math and the real world. Many are learning how to solve an equation but are unable to apply it later. My goal with my 4th and 5th graders this year and next is to increase their connections to when and how to use what they have learned.....not just for a test.
Many of my student have disabilities, I need to increase their ability to relate what they are learning so they will remember the skills.
I plan to increase their connections with stories. Everyone loves stories! It is such an important time of the day when there is not stress to learn a skill but just to listen and have an open discussion with friends in the classroom.
Funding from this project will bring leveled text to use in my classroom. The read aloud will be about math skills being used in every day life. The books will be used both in whole group and daily small group work. Thank you for your help teaching my students!
