Students In Need Of Creative Outlets On The Playground!
My students need more game options during recess - and jump ropes to promote gross motor activities and learning!
Is it time for recess? My students need activities to promote gross motor activities where they can interact and play, as well as games that are thought-provoking and imaginative.
My students attend a middle-income, suburban public school in California.
They are active and social and need more options for creative play during recess and the time remaining after lunch. Currently, we only have one play set for over 600 students (grades 1-5) to use on a daily basis. Studies have shown that a wide-range of physical activities offered to students can help their academic performance, as well as promote healthy child development.
The students have a large black top area and an open field where they play during recess. By providing them with creative items they can do more than simply play with the limited number of playground balls and basketballs available to our growing student population. Through your generous support I would like to provide students with items like standard and double dutch jump ropes, cones for obstacle courses, bean bag toss and balls for games such as dodge ball, all of which promote physical activity. I would also like students to have the option of participating in more cognitive-thinking games like chess, domino and math centered board games which promote concentration and memory focus.
Children need a broad range of activities to choose from so they can explore their own interests and skills.
Involving students in a variety of activities also reduces the tendency towards bullying by keeping everyone more engaged. With your donation, students will be able to have fun while they are learning!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
