My Students

My students attend high school in a very rural area with the majority of students receiving free or reduced lunch. Last year they had a long-term substitute in chemistry and a large amount of our graduated cylinders were shattered and not replaced. Help our students!

Our area has been hit very hard by the recent recession.

It is a very rural area with a large population of students and their families who are day-to-day as far as their finances. We are a small school with very limited resources, and replacing a large amount of glassware is beyond our current budget's ability to handle.

My Project

Our curriculum is the first experience many of the students have using lab equipment in a real setting. Because of the nature of chemistry, we are required to make very accurate measurements of liquid volumes. Unfortunately we are currently without usable 10 mL graduated cylinders. These 10 graduated cylinders would greatly increase our students' achievement.

Chemistry for many students is their last experience with science in an academic setting.

We would like to make this course as enjoyable and interactive as possible. Unfortunately, we have limited resources for volumetric measurements, which slows down our pacing and causes our students to lose interest quickly. We would like to change this situation so they might enjoy science again.
