This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can do." ~ John Wooden In my field, of Special Education, it is unfortunate that I hear "she/he can't do that" from many parents and colleagues of the students that I teach. This quote reminds me to never stop trying to teach new things.

I am fortunate to teach on a diverse campus with colleagues who share my passion to meet the needs of English language learners and students who come from families of low socioeconomic status.

Many of my students love attending our school because it is consistent, structured and safe. They are eager to learn especially when given curriculum that is accessible with technology. My students received 2 Chromebooks last year through one of my projects and I have never seen such enthusiasm in my lessons. I was able to expose them to interactive lessons, email and Internet based quizzes which increased their focus, attention and test scores.

My Project

My goal this school year is to set up gmail accounts for each of my students, most of whom do not have computer access at home, and teach them to use it to correspond with teachers, supervisors, and friends in an efficient way. Eventually I would like to have 1 computer per student. These Chromebooks and wireless mice will also allow my students to access their district adopted Special Day Class curriculum more effectively. This year my district has become a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) district, but due to socioeconomics many of my students do not have their own device. I do not want funding to prohibit their access to technology or the curriculum.

Many of my students do not have access to technology or the Internet at home, although I have found they are able to access information better with the technology that I've introduced than without it.

My classroom is designed to prepare students for a career and in the 21st century al careers include knowledge of technology. I hope this project can allow my students to be the best candidates for future careers in the field they are interested in and qualified for.
