Hooray! This project is fully funded
I am a first year teacher at McCutcheon Elementary school, which is an inner city Chicago Public School. This k-8 school, like many schools are lacking funds. I offer my students a 15 min recess to give them a break and refresh their minds. However, it usually ends up in mass chaos with students running around like wild animals. I would like to help structure this free time with various activities and games that I conduct in my classroom that will be fun for students, but will also continue their learning. However, as a first year teacher I have very few resources to help meet the many needs of my students.
I believe that by having them partake in fun and educational activities that it will really impact their lives in a positive matter. The students in my class live in poverty. 100% of the students in my class receive free breakfast and lunch. For many of them these two meals are the only things that they will eat all day. Additionally, 5% of McCutcheon students are homeless. For students to be able to come to a environment that helps engage them but is also fun, it will encourage a great classroom environment that will lead to success.
One might think that creating a productive free time is silly, but I think it's a great way to continue their learning WHILE taking a break from regular classroom routines.
PLEASE HELP MY CLASS!
