I teach at Pawtuckett Elementary school. I teach all subjects: Math, Science, Social Studies and Reading/Writing. Many of the students that attend Pawtuckett come from less-fortunate families. These students often can not afford the necessary tools for school. One of those important tools is calculators. I first and foremost require that my students understand all concepts taught before relying on a calculator. But, I do feel it necessary that all of my students know how to use a calculator due to the fact that they are required to use calculators during their quarterly testing as well as their End of Grade tests. Although I have calculators students can use in the classroom, they can not go home with the students. I want to be able to provide calculators that the students can have take home and be able to practice with in additon to what I have available in school. I feel that by providing all my students with calculators, I am giving them a tool that will help them become successful in performing and checking on various mathematical problems throughout the year. Any help will greatly be appreciated.
