My students need art prints to deepen their thinking and they need multicultural art materials to show their ideas in a way that represents themselves and the world like multicultural markers, paper faces and people colored pencils.
My students are excited by the many ways they can learn and deepen their observation and questioning skills by seeing, thinking, and wondering while looking at art. They apply these creative and critical thinking skills to other subjects and use these notions when showing their own understandings.
Our school is very diverse culturally, racially, and economically.
Many of my students speak more than one language. We stress the importance of tolerance and respect through our class meetings as well as our curricular focuses.
We are a a public school using the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. We use an inquiry-based approach allowing the students to learn and show their understandings in a variety of ways, including drawing as well as writing and speaking. We emphasize looking critically at art as well as texts and have students use the routines of seeing, thinking, and wondering in both. These practices deepen their questioning skills. In our classroom students show what they know in a variety of ways. They develop an understanding that there are many ways to solve a problem and to express ideas. They work collaboratively, learning to respect the ideas of
others.
My Project
My students need art prints to deepen their thinking and they need multicultural art materials to show their ideas in a way that represents themselves and the world like multicultural markers, paper faces and people colored pencils. In our classroom we use arts integration in many ways! Students will use the posters of famous artworks to look at art and develop strong critical thinking skills as they see, think, and wonder. These ARTFUL THINKING routines, developed by Harvard's Project Zero, will help students work on skills like elaboration and identifying details necessary In a variety of subjects including writing, reading, and math. Sharing ideas they will collaborate as they learn. They will use the multicultural materials to include in drawings, posters, and projects they create to show their understandings. Having the materials to include people with a variety of skin tones in students' work will allow them to reflect themselves and our global community in their projects. I believe this will help their creativity soar! I want all children to feel welcome and included so I want thMy students need art prints to deepen their thinking and they need multicultural art materials to show their ideas in a way that represents themselves and the world like multicultural markers, paper faces and people colored pencils. em to be able to find a color to use to draw with or a paper to cut that matches their own skin!
Students will be able to examine works of art up close and in detail through this project.
They will be understanding how they can use art and observation to develop their critical thinking skills. As they get ready to show what they learn they will be able to be more creative by including people of many skin tones in their work. This will affirm the members of our class and reflect our diverse world, increasing tolerance and understanding.
