Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember what it was like to be a high school student? Take your experience and add to it a traumatic personal background, unwise choices, and poor friendships. Imagine what it would be like to have no support at home and no reason to do the right thing.

Our high school has created the Forensics Police and Fire Academy (FPFA), which is a four year UC approved course of study.

Many of the students in this program are at risk for failure based upon attendance, behavior, and academic issues that extend far beyond the boundaries of the imagination. It is my job to ensure that my students don't drop out, but rather proceed to graduation.

Our school is a four-year comprehensive public high school proudly providing students an academically-rigorous educational program preparing them for their post-secondary education. Overall, the area surrounding our school is of a lower socio-economic status. About 75% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and 50% are English Language Learners. Most students walk or take public transportation to school.

My Project

Don't let the Coronavirus put an end to interesting and engaging learning. Just because learning looks different, doesn't mean it has to be boring. Donating to this project will allow my students to be interested and engaged in the process of learning what anti racism is and how to promote it. Whether students are in person or online, having access to professional audio recording equipment such as the Zoom 6-Track Portable Recorder that I have requested will allow for amazing creativity and engaging learning.

Schools are terribly unprepared for digital learning and what money they do have is being spent on physical protection from disease.

For a few years, we have been making and promoting videos and podcasts about inclusion, kindness, and anti-racism, so this Zoom audio recorder will allow for my students to dynamically create, present, and interact in a way that would otherwise be impossible. Students will be using this audio recorder to create podcasts, videos, and social media posts to help spread the antiracism message. Furthermore, this resource is easily cleaned between use. By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase my students' academic achievement while spreading kindness and anti-racist ideology. Students will be able to focus on what really matters, learning. Finally, I teach in the Forensic Police and Fire Academy.

This project will help a broad spectrum of students across multiple subjects such as English, Science, History, as well as Forensics, Police, Fire, and EMT. We are hoping to create the next wave of individuals in all fields to promote anti-racism, kindness, and a better society.
