It may not seem like a big thing, but in our space, it really makes a huge difference.\r\n\r\nIn three of my classes, students are learning English for the very first time while also navigating life as teenagers in a brand-new culture. For some, this even means being away from their parents, which makes the challenge even greater. Without extra support, they can easily fall behind their peers who have grown up here in SoCal. Having a working printer with plenty of ink means I can give them the materials they need right away—whether that's brand-new assignments or second copies so they can try again and build confidence along the way.\r\n\r\nMany times already, I have given my students an extra copy of their work, including poems, sentence frames, and abridged reading passages, so they are able to re-engage in the learning process. It is because of your kindness that my students have immediate access to learning tools that keep them prepared, motivated, and on track. Ink might seem simple, but to us, it's a bridge to opportunity, encouragement, and progress.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for making sure our classroom is a place where they feel valued and supported every day.","fullyFundedDate":1750953023836,"projectUrl":"project/just-the-basics/9272665/","projectTitle":"Just the Basics","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10004813"},{"teacherId":9841734,"projectId":9227970,"letterContent":"I am so grateful for your generous contribution to my classroom. I was thrilled to see the request had been fulfilled and even more excited when the books arrived. This year for the first time I was able to have students open the book and explore this exceptional text in its print form. Previously we have relied on PDF's online. There is something special though about holding a book and experiencing the art in the form the author intended. \r\n\r\nThis year I have the opportunity to use the books with my IB English 11 HL students who are engaged with the text particularly because of its global significance and perspective. They have enjoyed being able to study graphic novels, a genre that is not necessarily seen as academic. Many already have started to think of the way they might use this text for their Individual Oral assessment in the Spring. While we could have done this with the PDF, I truly believe that engaging with the physical text has meant a lot for the students' retention and engagement with the novel.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nT","fullyFundedDate":1744290658416,"projectUrl":"project/persepolis-books/9227970/","projectTitle":"Persepolis Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bowers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9841734_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y447&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759335589936","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9841734"},{"teacherId":7015804,"projectId":8562885,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contributions to my DonorsChoose project, which aimed to build a diverse and inspiring library of photography books for my students. Thanks to your support, we are now the proud owners of a wonderful collection that will truly transform our learning experience.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has enabled my students to access a wealth of knowledge and inspiration from some of influential photographers both modern and historical. These books will provide them with invaluable insights into various photographic styles, techniques, and, most importantly, how photographers develop and execute a cohesive body of work based on their unique ideas.\r\n\r\nWatching as my students engage in the texts as they explore the pages of these books is exciting to see. They are eager to learn from the masters, analyze their approaches, and apply those lessons to their own creative endeavors. This access to diverse perspectives will broaden their understanding of photography as an art form and empower them to develop their own distinct voices.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not just provided books; it has opened up a world of possibilities for my students. It has given them the tools to explore their creativity, refine their skills, and see the potential within themselves. They will be able to see how a photographer can take an idea, develop it over time, and produce a body of work. This will be invaluable in their own projects.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in my students and supporting their passion for photography. The mental health support has sparked enthusiasm for English, especially among students who had limited success in the past. We've incorporated these supplies into daily class activities, where students can explore different genres, build vocabulary, and engage in rich discussions. A standout project was a creative book report assignment where students combined their reading with visual art. Using the donated supplies, students created posters or visual representations of their chosen book, blending literary analysis with artistic expression. This project encouraged students to think critically while also giving them a platform to express their interpretations in a unique way.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, the excitement in the classroom was palpable. Students eagerly unpacked them and immediately started using the new materials. The supplies were equally met with joy and eagerness, with students excited about the opportunity to use them in their creative projects. This enthusiasm has been contagious, and it has created a more dynamic and engaging classroom atmosphere where students feel both motivated and supported.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve continuing to build on this foundation. We are working on a writing project that ties into the books we've been reading, with students crafting their own short stories inspired by the themes or characters they've encountered. The donated curriculum materials will be invaluable as we focus on improving writing skills, with a particular emphasis on narrative structure and character development. As students move forward with these projects, they will not only refine their literary analysis but also build confidence in their ability to express themselves creatively. The resources provided have already made a lasting difference, and we can't wait to see the continued growth and achievements of our students.","fullyFundedDate":1730847300212,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-supplies/8921573/","projectTitle":"Mental Health Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. York","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1860142_orig.jpg?crop=320,320,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569440596053","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dr-york"},{"teacherId":1583325,"projectId":8924095,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donation of the bean bags and desks.
