Our school places a high value on student voice. We know that our students have innovative ideas, and we hope to create an environment where students feel encouraged to share their thoughts, opinions, and ideas.
As a result of the Coronavirus, our students are speaking up and speaking out in new ways.
Many teachers, myself included, noticed that we received more feedback and responses from our more reserved students while learning online. Students would write messages in the chat box frequently. Many teachers, myself included, also noticed that some of our students struggled with the social aspects of returning to our physical classrooms. For some students, returning was exactly what they needed, for others, they "lost" a form of communication when they could not use the chat box.
For this project, I am requesting a standing desk, a wireless keyboard, and a wireless mouse. I want to encourage more collaboration between students and also support leadership development. Students can use the resources to present ideas, create TedTalks where they share their expertise, and create interesting media resources to support passion projects. Students can use their voices in multiple ways. Students that like to be in front of others, can present in front of the class or during our town halls. Students that prefer to stay behind the scenes, can create videos and other forms of media to get their incredible ideas out for all to see.
