My Students

My students are lower-income high school students who struggle with understanding mathematical concepts through traditional teaching methods.

Only 20% of students understand mathematical concepts through traditional teaching methods, and my students have already failed to master the skills at least one time.

I need to grow as an educator to help my students through different, varied teaching methods.

I know that my students can master these skills; they just need it to be presented differently. They need more hands-on learning and better mathematical discourse in class to help them understand the concepts.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting would help me bring my classroom into the 21st century by helping me facilitate classroom discussion around the math skills to build understanding instead of relying on only following the steps.

My students are more than capable of really understanding why things work the way they do in mathematics.

By utilizing these resources, I can help them achieve that goal. We can work together to build real discourse in the classroom in a way that builds understanding beyond completing the steps of the math problems that we work on.

These resources would greatly benefit my students' long-term mathematical foundation.
