From a practical standpoint, the books are no longer falling off the shelf with each little disturbance. That is already a wonderful change.\r\n\r\nMore importantly, because about half of the books are facing outward, students are able to make more educated reading choices. They spend more time with their decisions. They pick up the books, look at the back covers, and learn a little bit about several people or places before deciding which one to check out. It is not unusual for them to decide on which book they'll read now AND which one they'll read next! \r\n\r\nI believe that the near-daily contact with the front covers has made some of the students more aware of important people, places, and events, even when they haven't read the books. Because the books are grouped by category, students can guess that Andy Warhol was an artist and that Rachel Carson is associated with the environment. \r\n\r\nSo thank you very much for helping make this corner of my classroom more attractive, more efficient and more effective.","fullyFundedDate":1738782754645,"projectUrl":"project/what-you-see-is-what-you-can-get/9090797/","projectTitle":"What You See is What You Can Get!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Liberge","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7298739_orig.jpg?crop=194,194,x0,y24&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732489199466","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7298739"},{"teacherId":7298739,"projectId":8976275,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my little class of English Language learners! The second semester of the year, we have had the luxury of having a separate class. The students have worked on reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension through an online application, some traditional grammar instruction, games, and independent reading. \r\n\r\nThanks to you, we have also enjoyed using our new bilingual books, \"Voces Sin Fronteras.\" As a group, we have read stories about immigration written by students like themselves. The experience has been great in so many ways: linguistically, culturally, socially and emotionally. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you for helping make it all possible!","fullyFundedDate":1733235236029,"projectUrl":"project/a-little-spanglish-por-favor/8976275/","projectTitle":"A Little Spanglish, Por Favor!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Liberge","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7298739_orig.jpg?crop=194,194,x0,y24&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732489199466","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7298739"},{"teacherId":7298739,"projectId":8960861,"letterContent":"My students and I are extremely grateful for your generous gifts. \r\n\r\nIn less than three weeks, students completed and passed tests on 33 of the new \"bobblehead books\" and started 28 more. Many students checked out our extra copies and took them home, allowing them to finish the books much more quickly than at the start of the semester.\r\n\r\nIn general, the presence of these books in our classroom library has accomplished many of the goals I set forth in this project. The students feel a sense of accomplishment when they finish a book quickly and prove that they learned the material. Once they've passed a test, they are always eager to go select another book. The overall tone during independent reading time has changed from one of dread and boredome to one of learning and discovery.\r\n\r\nTo make these books even more meaningful and memorable, I'm working on some project ideas to implement in the upcoming semester.
