My classroom can be divided into two areas- the lecture area with desks and the lab area with lab benches. Because I am lucky enough to have a lab area built right into my classroom we are trying to take full advantage of the space. Naturally being a chemistry class we have to take many precautions when working in the lab area. These lab coats will help keep my students safe during experiments and lessen the burden of dressing lab appropriate each week. Students who are not dressed appropriately miss out on the first-hand, inquiry-based experience of completing a lab. Instead they must complete an alternative assignment that separates them from their peers and cheapens their overall experience. Having a classroom set of lab coats would streamline our lab days and allow us to focus more on science and less on clothing. My students have communicated to me that they have little faith in receiving adequate school funding and your donations could excite and inspire them.
