Student Success Comes From Daily Practice and iPads Can Help!
My students need iPads to practice their skills in their classrooms during the day. Repetition and practice are extremely vital to success with speech and language development.
Students with low speech intelligibility and poor vocabulary struggle to produce speech sounds like their peers and use language to functionally communicate. These students are typically receiving special education services for speech and language support. They are more difficult to understand, they can have trouble making friends, and also demonstrating their breadth of knowledge to their teachers.
Speech and Language are the keys to success; we need speech and language to learn, to read, and to socialize.
Every day my students come to school despite their challenges. They cannot communicate the way their peers do within their general education classrooms and they need our support as teachers, to develop those skills. These students come from all types of backgrounds with varying types of need and at school we have 4 to 6 hours to do all that we can until they go home.
My students need as much support with their speech sound and language development that they can get. Repetition and practice are the key to success and to improvement of speech sound errors and to increase language skills.
My Project
My students struggle with speech/articulation and language skills. They need a way to practice with targeted interventions in the classroom that will dive into their areas of weakness. Having iPads to loan to classrooms for intervention periods, to allow these students practice in their general education setting would help them progress faster.
Research shows that repetition and frequent practice on speech and language deficits will increase student success and progress on special education goals!
An iPad is the most beneficial form of technology due to it's variety of software options for working on speech and language when compared to other tablets and computers.
If my students had these tools to use in their classroom it would bring greater awareness to their teacher, themselves, their families, and also demonstrate their ability to generalize the skills they are developing, not limited to a small group setting.
