The following materials requested will help with vocabulary and concept development through color, size, shape, location, function and more: Color Discovery Boxes, Shapes Discovery Boxes, Caterpillar Sorting Mat, Color Sorting Paint Cans, Peek-a-boo Octopus, and Shape Sorting Center. The students will be developing these skills in a physical, more exciting way, using movement to stay engaged and not become distracted as well as have a variety of tasks to engage in and generalize these skills. My students need to learn through play instead of working at a desk. The Jack in the Box and also the Peek-a-boo Octopus target cause and effect. Cause and effect is an important concept and this needs to be developed by my students. My students will be connecting to our curriculum and the common core state standards with the use of these products as they support concepts like sorting and concept knowledge: shape, color, size, function, etc... Lastly, my students will develop play skills which will support interaction with peers and adults both in and out of school. The Let’s Go Fishing! Playset, What’s Inside? Soft Feely Box, and simple sign language board books will also support vocabulary but will specifically target the skills they need to interact with others. Through the use of these materials, my students’ vocabulary will grow to provide opportunity for expression and understanding of their world around them.
