My students are highly motivated learners who demonstrate a strong desire to learn.
They are learning Chinese, Science, and Math in Mandarin with me.
Less than 1% of our students are from Chinese native speaking families. In other words, 99% of our students are not only learning the second language but using the second language to learn other subjects such as math and science. Our classroom is the only place for them to learn the Chinese language and culture. We treasure the time we have at school.
My Project
I'm requested two literature organizers for my classroom.
Having a set place for students to put all their graded papers in so they can collect them and take them home on Friday will help students be organized during the week.
They can take their work home at the end of the week and their parents can have a chance to look over what they have been learning. Students will take their work home in a folder that their parents must sign each weekend showing that the parent has had the opportunity to examine the finished work and the score the student has received. Students can then rework the problems they got wrong to earn a better grade and gain understanding from fixing their mistakes.
In the past, I returned the tests, assignments, and homework when I finished grading them and most of the students put the work in their backpacks or in their totes and parents never saw the finished work. Parents did not have a chance to know how their child was doing at school and the student did not have a second chance to look over the work again and learn from their mistakes.
With individual mailboxes and Friday folders, the parents and students will have extra time to review the students' work and help the student create good study habits.
