My Students

Our class has come up with an Adult Behavior Expectation scale where students are rated by staff on a daily basis in seven categories on a scale from 1-5. If they score in the satisfactory range they can get a treat from the grab bag and one student is declared the "Student of the Week."

Our students are young adults who are between 18 to 22 years of age.

Our students are older, but continue to qualify for continued education provided by the District. They are amazing students who choose to be in the program to obtain crucial skills needed for a successful transition from student of a school district to adult life. We focus on the following areas: vocational skills, daily living skills, and post-secondary education.

My Project

The students receive a daily score in the following areas: attendance, greeting, morning procedure, interactions, advocacy, participation, and following directions. If their score is within the satisfactory range for the week they get a treat from the grab bag (candy, snacks, etc.) and the highest scoring students is "Student of the Week." Student of the Week can get a prize such as sitting in the front in the van. If they can maintain that score for the month they can get "Student of the Month" which is similar to Employee of the Month. Their picture is displayed on the wall with a blurb about them and a prize ($5-$10 gift card, headphones, etc.). This is teaching them adult behaviors to carry over to a work/job setting. The students develop the skills of greeting their boss and coworkers, ensuring they attend each day or if they can't, ensuring they call in prior to their shift starting, and more from this amazing incentive system.

This donation of treats (almonds, candy, etc.), basic headphones, and a few small amount gift cards will help us continue with our Student of the Week and Student of the Month project.

The students love this incentive system and it truly makes a difference in class participation and following rules since letter grades are not given. It gives them something to strive for and the desire to do better. There were also some medals put in our cart, that we would like to use when we do our team building activities.
