Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first graders love to tell me stories about their lives, what happens in shows they see, and what happens in the books they read. I want to keep this joy in storytelling and learning alive. Part of the way we do this is through Reader's Workshop, the daily block where students have a chance to read books they have selected because they look interesting to them, and to share about these books with partners.
Our elementary serves a fully minority community, and 100% of our students receive free lunch.
Some of these students do not have easy access to reading material once they go home. It is crucial they spend as much time reading as possible. Reading can open so many doors once it is in their toolboxes.
My Project
I do a lot of individualized work with small groups of students in my classroom. While I am working with these groups, students participate in a variety of other centers and activities. One of these can be to go on educational websites that support their foundational literacy and mathematical skills at precisely their level.
These headphones would help students to fully immerse themselves in their work, and give me more freedom for increased individualized attention in the classroom.
Additionally, these headphones can be used at other times, not plugged into anything to help students who need an extremely quiet environment in order to feel calm or to focus.
