My students need to be successful. Their comfort is so important to me. Less stress means greater opportunities to learn. I could feel the students relax when they grip the large pencil and the large crayon. Tiny crayons break so quickly and small hands that cannot regulate strength and pressure. It's also lovely when students get new supplies later in the year. We actually started the year with used supplies so it was heartwarming to see the surprise when they got to choose a brand new pointy crayon. As for the pencils, I've removed the small pencils with the small rubber grip attachments and replace them with a larger or more manageable primary pencils. We had a class visitor and they were eager to show it off. The large rug with large squares give them personal space parameters when choosing where to sit. It was joyful to watch how they want to care for it to make it last till the end of the year in nice condition. On a glitter and craft day, then the little hand broom and dustpan will be used. They were so excited to use them during art activities. They are so creative and artistic! Although they took the Christmas and Thanksgiving art work before I took photos of them (pumpkins and Elf on the Shelf for example) I did manage to take a picture of their butterfly artwork before they took them home. \r\n\r\nSeveral of my students have challenging home lives. It is very difficult for a few to even make it to school on time. I usually try to do a short art lesson on Monday mornings to encourage them to show up on time. It works! They seem to be very relaxed when I turn on classical music as they use the oil pastels. They say it is very calming and fun to use. I used to have a few students just sit and chat at the benches, despite my attempts to get them involved in relay races or going down the slide. They just weren't interested. My students were so happy when they received their multiplication cards. They asked if they could open the box and practice their multiplication facts. Some even asked if it was for them and if they could take it home.\r\n\r\nMy students use their cards every morning and practice their facts with their partners. They are highly motivated to use them because we have a Math Around-the-Word game every Wednesday and Friday. EVERYONE is engaged. This is a multiplication game where the entire class gets to compete with each other to win incentives, such as slime or plushies, at the end of the game. Some choose to take their cards home to practice with an older sibling.\r\n\r\nThank to your donation, 40% of my class has mastered their multiplication facts to 100 and it's only February. A few have even mastered them to 144, which is a 4th grade standard. I noticed that there were a lot of multiplication problems when they took their math district assessments last week. I can't wait until more of my students master their multiplication facts. This has allowed them to focus and participate in class a little more.
