Can you imagine living in an area where Internet is still not available to all homes? I live in rural North Carolina. Believe it or not, many of my students still lack access to technology at home. Many of those who do have access cannot afford to have it. School has become the only opportunity for these students to engage with computers and other technology. These skills are essential to produce career ready adults.
When given the opportunity to be creative, my students shine!
I utilize our 1:1 Chromebooks in a variety of ways to increase student engagement but I see the most engagement from my students when I can set them loose and really let them create. This is an area I want to focus on this year, providing opportunities for them to showcase what they have learned and also provide them opportunity to teach others through the use of media. I cannot wait to see what they will do with it!
My Project
Recently my classroom acquired a green screen and lighting studio. My students are so very excited about it. A donor generously gave my classroom an iPad mini to use with project. Unfortunately, the iPad was not fully functional and the reverse camera does not work. I started this project in hopes that we could acquire an iPad early in the year and my students could begin creating wonderful projects that would showcase what they have learned in class.
Creating is the highest order thinking skill on Bloom's Taxonomy.
I want my students to be able to design, film, edit and publish works that will highlight their learning and will make them proud!
