I love when my students are excited about books. Sophia, Daniella, and Alyssa want to share their passion for books and reading with their classmates. These young ladies love learning new things and sharing ideas. They bring such a positive energy to my room each day.
Each day we start our class with independent reading time. Students get to choose what they read. We have a class library, and the girls noticed that our library was missing some books they had read and loved. They wanted to add those titles plus some new ones they heard about to the library. They feel that if there are books that are of high interest level, it will encourage students to read more.
Reading books of a high interest level will help my students be habitual lifelong readers. The more they read, the more their reading skills improve. Reading also helps with their grammar and vocabulary skills. Their social-emotional skills are developed as they connect with characters and conflicts that occur in the novels.
In Their Own Words
Our project idea is to get a lot more books of many different genres for our library. Every day when we get into the classroom, we read for 10-20 minutes a day to get our brains moving. We would love to help our classroom library grow bigger and bigger. A majority of the class loves to read the books Rapunzled Revenge, The Secret Series, and The Lunar Chronicles. We would love to be able to have an ability to have these books and others in our classroom library.
We will be leaders in making this project happen. We love to read in our classroom, and we took the ability to be able to ask for books for our library. Our teacher loves to see us enjoying our books and thriving to read so much more. When we get the books, the class will love them, and they will be so enthusiastic that we got many more books that will last over many and many years.
This project is very important for our class library and community. Our class would like a wider variety of books. We are allowed to sign books out of our class library to read in class and at home. With these new books, our class would be more interested and drawn to reading. With more books for our classroom, all of our peers would know there will be a book in the library that will be interesting to them. It would make the classroom a more enjoyable place because we love books!
