Student Choice With Flexible Seating

My students need easy options for flexible seating. The chairs, tables, and desks I have requested will allow students to easily rearrange themselves for different purposes, especially communication and collaboration with peers.

My Students

Sixth grade is special. My students are just starting middle school in our district. Can you remember this age? Age 11 or 12, feeling so grown up but still so young. A huge variety of emotions come with this transition, including anxiety for many.

My students are diverse, interesting, inquisitive, and ready to learn.

Middle schoolers are developing in so many ways, including the most active time period of brain growth since infancy! I am amazed by the potential in these young people - our future leaders.

My Project

The classroom environment is so important to the level of learning that can take place. Students need to learn how to manage their own learning and have the freedom to take care of their own needs. Students are diverse individuals with diverse needs. Giving students this freedom shows that they are respected as individuals.

A safe, comfortable environment can help pave the way for exciting learning opportunities.

I believe students should have ample opportunities for choice with high expectations for self direction. Giving choice in seating is one way to give students ownership in the classroom.

The Surf portable desk would allow students to sit comfortably in a chair, on the floor, or even on the stairs, indoors or out, and take a desk with them! The foldable laptop desk will allow for similar flexibility. Both of these items will work great in our 1:1 Chromebook teaching environment. The SitWell adjustable stool is a great alternative option to a typical desk chair for active sixth grade students. I know that my students would greatly appreciate these updated seating options.
