The classroom environment is so important to the level of learning that can take place. Students need to learn how to manage their own learning and have the freedom to take care of their own needs. Students are diverse individuals with diverse needs. Giving students this freedom shows that they are respected as individuals. A safe, comfortable environment can help pave the way for exciting learning opportunities. I believe students should have ample opportunities for choice with high expectations for self direction. Giving choice in seating is one way to give students ownership in the classroom. The Surf portable desk would allow students to sit comfortably in a chair, on the floor, or even on the stairs, indoors or out, and take a desk with them! The foldable laptop desk will allow for similar flexibility. Both of these items will work great in our 1:1 Chromebook teaching environment. The SitWell adjustable stool is a great alternative option to a typical desk chair for active sixth grade students. I know that my students would greatly appreciate these updated seating options.
