This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th graders are a resilient bunch of kiddos. With 85% of my students speaking English as a second language, our classroom is a space that welcomes many diverse backgrounds and cultures. 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch and face many obstacles that may hinder their ability to focus on simply being a student.

This will be my second year with these same students who have faced the obstacles of learning through a pandemic head-on.

My Project

Students have been through a lot the last 3 school years; with remote learning, adjusting to new norms, dealing with illness and quarantining. I want my students to have tools to practice mindfulness and social and emotional well-being in the classroom to alleviate some of these outside stressors.

This project will allow my students to pick how they practice mindfulness in the classroom amidst a global pandemic.

I am eager to provide them with educational AND fun opportunities to increase engagement and decrease stress for them. With this project, my students will be able to pick from books, math manipulatives, geographic puzzles, and many more activities that will create a space for educational exploration.
