Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When my students walk into my classroom, they bring the knowledge of the many challenges that await beyond the school walls with them. However, this doesn't stop them from bringing the full force of their curiosity and best selves into Biology class. They are creative, determined, and proud of their successes and those of their peers. Many of these students have an interest in science or healthcare professions as a future career and my goal is to help this interest grow.

This project is designed to help provide students with all the materials needed to continue developing their creative, collaborative, and organizational skills in science through the use of a personal science notebook.

Availability of materials should never be a barrier to student learning and with these tools, my students will never have to worry.

Materials like chart paper, markers, and colored pencils will allow students to collaborate on data analysis or small research presentations with a goal of practicing their presentation and public speaking. In biology, students are provided a notebook to keep a record of their daily class learning whereas sport science students will have a binder available for their learning. Using these materials will help students in their organization and allow them to see how their learning has grown over the year. Having access to tape and colorful paper will also let students customize their notebooks and result in a product that they feel proud of. I often have students visit after they have graduated who tell me that they used their notebooks as a reference for college course review. I am looking forward to a successful year with your support.
