My classroom is full of students who are thoughtful, unique, and creative leaders. They are problem-solvers, and they thrive when they have opportunities for hands-on activities that allow them to think deeply and creatively.
They are a diverse group of learners with vastly different interests, learning styles, and educational needs.
They all benefit when they have access to different types of resources. With severe budget cuts to our school this year, we are dependent on donations for our daily classroom resources to support the needs of our students.
My Project
As a first-year teacher, I am often pressed with making challenging, financially-motivated decisions throughout the year to enrich the learning community in my classroom. My project focuses on items that will not only help with instruction but also tackles some of my day-to-day needs as they will allow me to focus more on incorporating some lifelong skills, encouraging their imaginations, and challenging them to grow as students.
Students are more engaged and excited about their work when they can make more of their own choices and have access to the resources that every classroom needs.
Flexible seating allows students to choose where and how they will work best – maximizing their potential for becoming independent learners by introducing decision-based environments for each student. Magnetic teaching charts for ELA and manipulatives for Math give students more visual and hands-on strategies for learning. Many of the classroom necessities that really keep the classroom running smoothly -- paper, post-it notes, printer ink, and hand sanitizer -- are also becoming harder to provide, and donors like yourself can help me leverage your support throughout the year.
