Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach English to 8th grade students in a highly-urban charter school. Our students strive to become scholars, activists, and creators in all of their endeavors. If this proposal is fulfilled, they will be able to see how all three of these traits can be utilized to have assess to books they so deeply desire.
Currently, our school is facing the harsh realities of budget cuts. As such, we are unable to create a library with age-appropriate books for our students.
For the past month, my future students (current seventh graders) have researched different genres and specific novels that they would like to read. They came in during lunch and after school to jump on-line and research different authors, genres, and series. Together, we compiled a list of novels that we are excited to have donated to our classroom!
With your donation, each of my students will enter into eighth grade in the fall with a NEW novel that they have directly expressed interest in. Please help this dream of theirs become a reality!
