Help me give my students Reading and Math file folder games to help them strengthen their foundational skills as well as build their grade level and critical thinking skills.
Our school is a Title I school where the majority of our population receive free or reduced cost lunch. Our students thrive on being part of the school community and being shown that the teachers and staff truly care about their success.
My students love being part of a classroom where they are encouraged to explore, share, and say how they are feeling.
We have parents who love volunteering and staff who enjoy coming into our classroom. One of them said to me "Your classroom is their happy place and mine as well". We have an environment that is welcoming and encouraging. The greatest feeling is when I hear students using the words that I always use to tell others "It's okay, I will help you".
My Project
Small groups is a great time for games which teach academic and social skills. The Reading Skills Folder Games will be used during small groups to help to teach and build upon Phonological Awareness and Phonics & Word Recognition skills in a fun way. These games will allow me to differentiate (as determined by assessments) for individual students or small groups based on their needs in the areas of phonological awareness, phonics, and word recognition.
Students will learn to work cooperatively and problem solve.
The Math Folder Games will also be used during small groups to teach and Number Operations and Counting & Place Value. I will be able to differentiate for individual needs in the area of counting, operations, and place value. These games will teach and build upon foundational Math skills and problem solving skills. They will also learn social skills and cooperation as students work together to play the games.
