Striving to Thriving with Two Novel Studies

Help me give my students engaging literature to fuel their love for books and help them develop higher level reading skills. This project would support our social studies curriculum and English Language Arts Common Core State Standards.

My Students

My fourth grade students have a thirst for quality read alouds where no matter their reading level they can come together for meaningful conversations and connections.

Some of my students are avid readers, while others are striving, needing great literature in their hands to help them thrive.

Through novel studies, my students will enhance their critical thinking skills by building authentic vocabulary and diving deep into character and plot development. My students will also make meaningful connections with characters which build upon their social skills and promote lifelong skills like empathy.

My students learn best through integration. What better way to cover multiple standards across contents than through novel studies.

My Project

Our class would benefit from 25 copies of Bound for Oregon and Sign of the Beaver. Each novel study can be easily integrated into our social studies curriculum covering Native Americans and the Western Movement. In addition, both novel studies provide rich and enlightening conversations that cover many of our English Language Arts Common Core State Standards.

I want my students to leave fourth grade as active readers who reflect, connect, and interact with text and develop a lifelong love for literature.

I know I can achieve this using engaging literature and integration.

Your support will not only benefit this year’s students, but future students for years to come. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
