This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of our upper elementary grade students love to perform and show case their talents, not only in terms of singing and dancing but also with musical instruments. They want to be rock stars, dance like the stars, as well as sing and rap hip-hop music. Here's where we find their hidden talents and notice how students are willing to go the extra mile to learn either a new song, a dance and even a musical instrument.

For them, music brings enthusiasm and excitement to the world of academics!

We generally have Winter and Spring classroom performances at our school and upper elementary teachers allow students to choose songs and dances that are well liked by all students. It's truly amazing to see the dedication that students put forth into their performances. They know that not only their peers and teachers are watching, but more importantly their family members. Parents not only come to watch the performance, but also to take pictures/videos for sharing with extended family members and to let their son or daughter know "I'm very proud of you-Estoy muy orgulloso de ti!" This moment is priceless and truly rewarding for our students.

My Project

Since our students love performing, we have written a grant on behalf of our upper level elementary students to take part in learning how to play the violin using the Suzuki Method of Instruction. This project will be specifically for students who have turned 11 years of age, therefore, it will target approximately 10-12 students in our school who will be taught by a Conservatory of Music Instructor.

This will be a great opportunity for us to expand our Strings Program and have a lower elementary and an upper elementary Strings Program.

Together they will be able to perform at our end of the year Spring Concert, Fifth Grade Graduation and the Conservatory of Music Strings Extravaganza.
